Studio Assistant - Job Description

-Prepping surfaces for paintings / varnishing finished paintings

-Supply inventory (Canvases, frames, framing hardware, brushes, paints…)

-Local delivery of artwork to gallery/collectors

-Clean studio

-Manage email inbox & communications with collectors and galleries

-Manage online store

-Order frames and supplies

-Drop off shipments at Postal Annex

-Frame paintings and package paintings

-Photograph artwork/ basic documentation and filing of images

-Research for projects (ie. find best place to make prints, grant opportunities, etc.)

-Manage studio calendar and deadlines

-Social media & newsletter content (Minimal, 1-2 Instagram posts/week & newsletters 4x/year)

-Reference shoot assisting (Managing camera gear, costuming, on-location help)

Desired attributes:

-Problem-solving skills (Ie. I need to figure out how to mount this drawing on paper to a rigid surface, using archival materials, and then determine which framer to use with the quickest turnaround and best pricing.)

-Flexible, thoughtful and with calm/quiet energy that helps protect my work focus

-4WD required to get to studio in the Winter

Bonus attributes:

-Photography skills

-Knowledge of Squarespace

-Calm / quiet energy that protects my ability to work

This position would vary in hours but would likely be around 3-8 hours a week with more available hours around shows and big projects. It could be ideal for a student or emerging artist wanting to learn more about an art career. My studio is in my home, 15 minutes from downtown Bozeman.
